LUCENT HAD BEEN a user of a leading content management and delivery system for over a year. Its extranet site provided partners and distributors with essential product and pricing information. Lucent’s new e-business objectives were to improve system performance to support the delivery of an ever-increasing amount of product data and personalize site information. Personalizing content for partners and distributors would significantly improve each visitor’s site experience with targeted information such as specific regional, contract and negotiated pricing information. eFoundry's mission was to improve performance by at least 25% without rewriting any existing application code. This target was exceeded with a new e-Foundry designed caching system and the optimization of several other aspects of the site including: iPlanet application server set-up, content management application configuration, and database management. Now Lucent's partners and distributors access their product information at an average of 40% faster. In addition, a full-range of personalization features were implemented through the content management application enabling partners and distributors to readily access targeted content.
